Chrome + Art of Story Telling = Google is the web communication Sun Tzu
Sun Tzu, author of the famous Art of War, has been one of the most interesting author of marketing book, more interesting than Seth Godin (I do believe he’s the best web marketer). The statements he’s providing are basics of communication and marketing and much more relevant in the web environment. Google seems to have well read that book too since their strategy and tactics that accompany the launch of their latest product are based and leverage the fundamental points of the Art of War, turning it into a Art of Story Telling.
Hence to fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting. - Sun Tzu, Art of War
Google has never said it was releasing the new revolutionary-marvelous-awesome-killing-Opera-FireFox-IE7-Safari web browser. They only said they’re working in making the future a better place for people to use the Internet. And then killed the fight, though they’re well aware the fight has started but is also won unless they do bad with the most important thing: people. But they definitly won’t.
Communication and marketing in the web field is about story telling. We do/ should all know that, it’s the same as TV spots plus engagement with the crowd that has gathered to look your performance and are willing to share with you. The comics book about Chrome and the reason why Google has developed it is made to initiate that engagement and provide material to people so that they can share about specific items. Presentation of the product is simple and plain using video to demo features. Those videos are ready to share and easy to send to a friend. If you need to go fast, you have a short demo of the 10 main features and if you’ve plenty of time you can watch the full presentation show. The web developer community is already on track and would soon deliver users a full set of plugins that match their needs.
Hence the skillful fighter puts himself into a position which makes defeat impossible, and does not miss the moment for defeating the enemy. - Sun Tzu, Art of War
As they’re doing with Android, Google is not missing the chance to avoid mistakes by leveraging the global brain and the goodwill of developers to create killer applications focusing in the users needs. And by that, they insure the fact they’d not be missing the oppportunity to step down FireFox and Internet Explorer, geting along with users and most valuable people who would spread the word and evangelize, the developers.
If it is to your advantage, make a forward move; if not, stay where you are. - Sun Tzu, Art of War
