Social Media + Razorfish = takeaways from Avenue A | Razorfish Client Summit

Shiv Singh, Social Media lead at Avenue A | Razorfish posted some good takeaways from their Client Summit. Here are some of his main takeaways with my comments:
- Social Media has gone mainstream and there’s no doubt about it >> There are obviously some reasons to be confident in that fact since worldwide clients like Levi’s, Ford, Dell, Amazon, and others are really willing to enter this media. Some of them have done pretty impressive moves (look at collaborative platforms such as Dell Ideastorm and My Starbucks Idea - read this Business Week article for more info) but some are still partially or not involved. There’s then no doubt about Social Media has gone mainstream, but still doubt about brands’ ability to engage with consumers and generate a vibrant community (remember Wal-Mart having failed growing then closed it’s music/ video community?).
- User Generated Content enhances a company’s reputation >> The exemple of media brands that are using UGC as a strengh (like CNN and Guardian Unlimited do) reveals the potential of social media, as it’s being currently proven by Twitter’s current situation when service angry power users are surrounding the 140 caracters social company.
- We’re still just beginning to understand user behavior >> It’s not just on user behavior, it’s on how consumers use Internet and for which reasons they spend so much time on social media.
- Social Media can be used to target brand new audiences >> Indeed you can target more precisely your target using interests as the new federating item, but if you’re only looking at socio-demo stats, you eventually do wrong…
